Here is a post about the recent issues that Tap to Chat has suffered, the updates recently pushed out and the slight issue still remaining. If you don’t want to read all the details, skip to the bottom to read the instructions on how to make sure that Facebook login will work.
Recently Facebook changed the way that it wants information from 3rd party chat clients. This meant that Tap to Chat was trying to connect and pass your login details to the Facebook chat server, the chat server didn’t recognise it and caused Tap to Chat to ask you to log back in again. When we heard about this issue we quickly jumped into action and found a work around for this issue.
We worked hard to get this fix done as swiftly as possible and submitted the application to Apple on Friday. We also asked Apple for an expedited review, which they kindly granted and new versions of the paid Tap to Chat client, as well as the free one made their way onto the app store last night.
Up until this point everything was going great, until we realised that another bug slipped through. If you update and launch the version of the app you are using, you might find that the app sits there with the message “Connecting to Facebook”. Unfortunately if this happens, Tap to Chat is stuck in a loop and won’t recover. The reason for this is due to the old authentication details that haven’t been updated as required. There is a work around:
How do you solve this issue?
You will need to delete the app from your iDevice and reinstall from the app store. The app will ask you to sign back into Facebook and the app will work great from that point in time. We are apologise that you have to do this. We are working on fixing this issue so that after the next update it won’t happen, but for the moment you will have to follow those instructions.
I’ve done what you said and my adverts came back in the free version!
If you are using the free version, and bought the in-app purchase, you will find that the adverts are back, you will need to go through the motion of paying for the update again. You will not be charged again for the purchase. To unlock, go to the action menu in the top right, tap “Why Upgrade?”, tap through the slide show and then tap “Unlock Pro Version”. You will then be prompted for your App Store account.
When is push coming? When is MSN coming?
MSN support is coming very soon – it is working in the internal beta test and seems to be working really well. We expect it to roll out before the end of October.
Push notifications / background support is currently being worked on and is a much bigger task that just flipping a switch. We are preparing a blog post to detail what we are doing, when we expect things to roll out and how we plan to support it in the next few days.
As always, we thank you for your support, apologise for the bumps in the road over the last week and thank you for your patience on push, we are wanting to make sure we do it right.
